Top 10 Lv.X Pokemon Cards Featuring Exceptional Artwork and Their Market Value

There have been many different types of cards in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, but one of the most novel is undoubtedly Pokémon Lv.X. These cards combined unique mechanics with impressive visuals, making it little wonder that some of them are quite desirable among collectors. Despite this, most Lv.X cards are actually remarkably affordable, with only a few carrying the kind of price tag comparable to the Pokémon TCG’s more expensive cards.

Lv.X Pokémon are easily distinguished from other Pokémon card variants such as the Pokémon TCG’s Pokémon EX cards, which themselves recently returned in the Scarlet and Violet expansion. Lv.X cards were actually the next variant of Pokémon cards to be added to the TCG after the original Pokémon-ex. However, instead of evolving, Lv.X Pokémon “Level-Up” from a normal version of the same Pokémon. This unique mechanic allows them to use the moves and abilities of their previous stage (the Pokémon which has been Leveled-Up) in addition to their own, something that opens up many new strategies.

This Magmortar Pokémon card, which TCGplayer values at $25.81, shows the Blast Pokémon with a hand outstretched as the holographic foil shines. The Pokémon looks remarkably cheerful considering this is a fairly brutal card. Magmortar Lv.X gives opposing Pokémon burns simply by being the active Pokémon, and these burns hurt worse than normal as well. Similarly, Flame Bluster deals 100 damage in exchange for discarding two Fire Energy from Magmortar Lv.X. And although Flame Bluster cannot be used on the following turn, this card can still pile on the pressure with the attacks of the underlying Magmortar card.

Darkrai Lv.X looks positively menacing, one hand glowing with an ominous light as it reaches out of the illustration. Similarly, the ethereal colors of the background evoke Darkrai’s connection to dreams and nightmares, something which is also reflected in the card’s text. Darkrai Lv.X can passively empower its own attacks, something which makes up for its low base attack power, but its Endless Darkness attack both puts Pokémon to sleep and makes it twice as hard for them to wake up. TCGplayer shows its market price has experienced a small spike recently, and is currently at $28.23.

With a listed TCGplayer market price of $32.17, Giratina Lv.X not only breaks the illustration box with an attack, but this attack seems to grind against the rest of the card. One of Giratina’s Origin Forme tendrils is shown scoring what looks like a thick gouge through the top of the card’s text box, revealing a brilliant white underneath.
