Reddit Flooded with Nudes as Cyberpunk 2077 Gamers Stage Protest

The largest subreddit for the open-world sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077 recently made the switch to NSFW (not safe for work) due to the mature nature of the game, which includes nudity and gore. However, Reddit allegedly demanded that the subreddit’s moderators revert the change. Despite this, the mods are refusing to comply, and as a form of protest, users are now sharing nude images of in-game characters to demonstrate why the subreddit should remain NSFW.

Since May, Reddit has been facing backlash from its users and subreddits as the company tightens restrictions on third-party apps and their access to the site’s backend and API. This has resulted in popular subreddits like r/bestof, r/sports, and r/music going dark. As part of this ongoing backlash, some subreddits have chosen to switch to NSFW. While this designation is typically used for pornographic content and blocks ads, it also allows users to freely share nudity and other adult content. Some moderators and subreddits have embraced this designation as a way to push back against Reddit and its CEO, who is widely disliked. Now, it seems that the Cyberpunk 2077 subreddit has become entangled in this controversy.

According to a post by moderator Tabnam on July 5, the decision to make the Cyberpunk 2077 subreddit NSFW was based on the fact that the game is intended for players aged 18 and above. The change was made recently because the moderators had not previously considered it. Tabnam also stated that the subreddit should have been NSFW from the start. However, this decision did not sit well with Reddit.
