The developers of Helldivers 2 have made it clear: friendly fire is here to stay, because who doesn’t enjoy randomly carpet bombing their friends?
Johan Pilestedt, the creative director of Arrowhead Game Studios, recently discussed this decision in an interview with Playstation Blog. He emphasized that the deliberate inclusion of friendly fire was a conscious choice by the studio to add realism to the game. In the world of Helldivers 2, bullets that can take down massive insects should also be able to harm humans, without exception.
Pilestedt also pointed out that the decision to keep friendly fire was influenced by the sheer enjoyment it brings. Randomly bombing your friends adds a darkly humorous element to the game and has led to the creation of numerous viral videos on social media. As a result, the developers have no plans to cater to players who may be dissatisfied with this feature and will not be disabling it.
