It’s been exactly 9 years since the release of the iconic game from FromSoftware on March 24, 2015. With the backing of Sony Japan, Bloodborne was exclusively launched for PS4.
Set in the fictional city of Yharnam, plagued and designed in a Victorian-Gothic style, Hidetaka Miyazaki’s action/RPG unfolds. A traveler arrives in the city seeking a cure for his illness, only to become a monster hunter after a local blood transfusion ritual.
Instantly beloved among souls-like games, Bloodborne received high praise from players and the press, with an average score of 92 points from critics and 9/10 from players on Metacritic. In its release year, the game garnered numerous GOTY awards, ranking third in quantity, surpassed only by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Fallout 4.
Following last year’s leak of documents from Insomniac Games, it was revealed that the game has sold a total of 7.5 million copies to date.
Despite being one of Sony’s top exclusives, Bloodborne has not received a remake, remaster, or PS5 patch, much to the disappointment of fans. However, there are rumors of a game remake coinciding with the release of a planned movie in the next few years, potentially changing the situation.
Nevertheless, the game has made a lasting impact on the gaming industry and in the hearts of fans forever.
