The PC version of Horizon Forbidden West performs better on AMD graphics cards than on Nvidia, according to recent testing.
Released on PC this week, Horizon Forbidden West has garnered attention from hardware enthusiasts eager to evaluate its performance. Unlike other recent releases, the game’s port from PS5 has shown strong performance on PC, with AMD graphics cards outperforming Nvidia GPUs overall.
Computer Base conducted testing on over a dozen different video cards paired with a Ryzen 9 7950X3D processor. In all cases, AMD cards took the top spot in terms of price-performance ratio. Even with activated upscaling technologies like DLSS, FSR, and XeSS, AMD graphics cards remained ahead of competitors, possibly due to the game’s original optimization for PS5 based on AMD.
The AMD flagship, Radeon RX 7900 XTX, leads the chart with an average of 146 fps at 1080p resolution using the “Very High” preset, surpassing the GeForce RTX 4080 Super. In the mid-range, the Radeon RX 7800 XT outperforms the GeForce RTX 4070 in two resolutions. Even the previous generation Radeon RX 6650 XT maintains an average frame rate above 60 fps in 1080p, outperforming the GeForce RTX 3060.
Despite these results, the game provides a visually stunning experience regardless of the installed video card. However, the PC version’s debut on Steam did not reflect its quality in terms of popularity among buyers, unlike previous Sony games.
