Bluesky saw a significant surge in growth last year, especially in the latter part, leading to an increase in moderation efforts. According to the 2024 moderation report released by Bluesky, the platform witnessed a rise of approximately 23 million users, soaring from 2.9 million to nearly 26 million. Moderators received a staggering 17 times more user reports compared to the previous year — with 6.48 million reports in 2024 as opposed to just 358,000 in 2023.
The majority of these reports were linked to issues such as harassment, trolling, intolerance, spam, and misleading content (including impersonation and misinformation). The rise of fake accounts pretending to be others became a prevalent problem following Bluesky’s surge in popularity.
