Unveiling the Surge of Harmful Content in Bluesky’s 2024 Moderation Report: A Rapid Rise with New User Influx


Bluesky saw a​ significant surge​ in ‌growth last year, especially ‍in the ⁣latter part, leading to an increase in moderation efforts.‍ According to the⁢ 2024 moderation report ⁤released by Bluesky, the ⁣platform witnessed a rise of approximately 23 ‍million users, soaring from 2.9 million to nearly 26 million. Moderators received ‌a staggering 17 times more user reports compared to⁣ the previous year — with ⁣6.48 million reports in 2024 as opposed to just 358,000 in 2023.

The majority⁣ of these reports ‌were linked to issues such as ⁤harassment, trolling, intolerance, spam, and misleading content (including impersonation and misinformation). The rise of fake ⁣accounts pretending‍ to be others became a prevalent problem following​ Bluesky’s surge in popularity.
