Funcom has unveiled a new trailer for Dune: Awakening, along with a featurette showcasing the studio’s adaptation of Arrakis for its Open World Survival MMO title. First revealed in 2022 at Gamescom Opening Night Live, Dune: Awakening has been shrouded in mystery until now.
The latest trailer, titled Survive Arrakis, was showcased during Funcom’s 15-minute Dune: Awakening Direct event. It offers a glimpse of the playable character exploring Arrakis on foot and using various vehicles and traversal methods, including piloting the iconic Ornithopter. The trailer also features iconic imagery such as sandworms and the Fremen.
Funcom emphasized that all the videos shown during the event, including the Survive Arrakis game trailer, contain no CGI. The footage is either directly in-game or in-engine, providing a cinematic experience reminiscent of the recent Dune movies.
Developed in Unreal Engine 5.2, Dune: Awakening leverages the engine’s advanced features, such as the Lumen lighting system and Nanite virtualized geometry system, to deliver stunning visuals. The game showcases core gameplay elements, including racing, battling, scavenging for resources, and building bases and shelters.
Creative Director Joel Bylos highlighted the impressive scale of Dune: Awakening, teasing “much larger” battles. While the game doesn’t reveal film spoilers, it aims to complement Legendary’s movie series, allowing players to immerse themselves in the world of Arrakis and create their own narrative.
