It can be incredibly frustrating when you just want to enjoy a video game you’ve purchased, only to be forced to link to a random third-party account. This inconvenience has even deterred some players from launching games by certain unnamed publishers. Currently, Helldivers 2 players are facing this issue as the PC version of the popular third-person shooter will soon require a connection to a PlayStation account.
Starting on May 6, new players must link both accounts, while existing players have until June 4 to comply with this new requirement. Sony claims that this linking process is necessary to safeguard players from harassment and misconduct, allowing them to ban individuals who engage in such behavior. It’s a classic case of punishing the majority for the actions of a few.
Although Sony insists that this was always part of the plan, technical difficulties at launch caused a delay in implementing the linking mandate. Essentially, when the PC version was released on February 8, players could enjoy the game without any additional account connections…
