Metal Gear Solid 3 is receiving a lot of attention lately, with PlayStation announcing a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and a port of the original trilogy. While remakes of beloved games can be exciting, in this case, the port of the original games may be more thrilling than the remake of MGS3. Some of this can be attributed to players knowing what they’re getting for the most part when it comes to ports, aside from technical issues that might come up. But there are a few other aspects regarding MGS3’s remake that could leave players feeling uncertain.
Metal Gear Solid 3 could use changes and improvements to bring it up to modern technology standards, but it doesn’t need a full remake in the style of other recent remakes like Resident Evil 4 or Final Fantasy 7. As it stands, the port of the original trilogy is a safer hope than the remake of MGS3 for a couple of major reasons.
Metal Gear Solid isn’t Konami’s only franchise, but overall, the company hasn’t been inspiring trust among players. Konami is currently working to revive Silent Hill and a remake of Silent Hill 2, but players remain wary of what the results will be like, especially after the cancelation of Silent Hills. After past disappointments, it can be difficult to feel more than a tentative hope for the MGS3 remake, especially without Kojima being part of the project.
Metal Gear Solid is a classic franchise, and MGS3 is iconic enough to be referenced even in recent games and TV shows. However, the driving force behind the series, Kojima, is no longer part of Konami, and that leaves a great deal of uncertainty revolving around the remake. As a result, it might not be unexpected for players to be more excited about having additional access to the original trilogy instead of looking forward to the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
