Spider-Man 2 Fans React Strongly to PlayStation’s Controversial Venom Tweet

A Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 tweet from the official PlayStation account has⁢ come across as rather thirsty, particularly regarding one of the game’s main villains. The next entry in Insomniac’s acclaimed ⁢superhero ⁢series will pit both Peter Parker and Miles Morales’ Spider-Men against ‍a wealth‍ of fan-favorite foes, primarily Kraven the Hunter and Venom,⁣ and 2023’s PlayStation Showcase’s gameplay footage revealed that Peter ‌will be battling the‍ darkness of the⁢ addictive symbiote‌ himself at one point.

The game will launch worldwide with a variety of special editions. These include the Digital Deluxe Edition, which has 10 unique suits, and the $229.99 Collector’s Edition, which also comes‌ with a ⁣steelbook display case and a⁢ collectible statue. The statue features both heroes attacking Venom from above and was the first proper indicator of how large Insomniac’s take on the character is.

In a post on Twitter, PlayStation UK advertised Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Collector’s Edition by urging fans to pre-order and ”Treat yourself to 19-inches of Venom”.

Whether this was intentionally meant to be an innuendo, or merely a poor choice of words when⁣ referring to the 19-inch statue of Venom is unknown, but it has certainly spurred many comments online, with “19 INCHES OF WHAT?”⁣ trending on Twitter for most of the day.

Several of the comments have referred ⁣to ‍the slightly saucy tone ⁣of ‌PlayStation’s initial post, and are joining in‍ with the fun. While Insomniac Games’ own ⁢Community and Marketing Director, ⁤James Stevenson simply replied “I have so many comments”, others such as Broseidon shared the Anakin and Padme ⁣Star Wars meme with the caption ‌”You mean the figurine, ⁢right?”. Several⁣ of the comments seemed to be more explicit in their responses, with RealShadowFan01 stating “I can ⁣take him”,⁤ CamNuggie simply commenting “Would”, and Black Thunder suggestively sharing an image of fellow⁤ PlayStation mascot Kratos from the God of⁢ War series holding a rather large vegetable.
