The Reject The Mother quest is an optional side quest in Diablo 4 that is acquired in the Dry Steppes area. It’s not a quest that players are likely to come across if sticking to a linear path and not doing a bit of exploring, which would be a mistake as these quests are a great way to earn Renown.
Aside from earning Renown in Diablo 4, these side quests sometimes provide interesting additional content. For example, the Reject the Mother side quest will present players with a riddle they must solve and an emote they must perform in order to complete it.
Specifically, the Whittling Sanity quest must be completed before beginning the Reject The Mother side quest. If the note is approached before then, interacting with it will not trigger the quest to start. The torn note will read:
Reviewing this riddle will now mark an indicated area on the map for players in Northern Tusamaa Rift, which is not unlocked without progressing through the story, hence why this quest cannot be completed before it. Head to the location indicated, which will require backtracking a bit.
At that location, there will be a hidden Shrine to Lilith in Diablo 4. The note asks players to shout their rejection at the Shrine, specifically, saying “No Mother of mine” which is a clue. The riddle is asking players to use the No emote in front of the Shrine of Lilith.
