Intuitive Machines’ Nova-C lunar lander, known as “Odysseus,” made history by becoming the first privately developed spacecraft to land on the moon and the first U.S. spacecraft to soft-land on the moon in over 50 years. The successful landing caused Intuitive Machines’ stock to surge by 16% in trading on Friday.
Based in Houston, Texas, the company confirmed that the IM-1 mission lander was standing upright and transmitting data back to Earth. Tim Crain, Intuitive Machines’ CTO and IM-1 mission director, expressed his excitement, stating, “Odysseus has found his new home.”
Following the news, Intuitive Machines’ stock initially soared by 40% before closing at $9.59 a share with a market valuation of about $1 billion.
