A 7-Star Rillaboom Tera Raid was announced for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet players. The activity will be held over two limited-time periods: the first one will run from July 28 to July 30, while the second period will occur from August 4 to August 6. Players will only be able to capture one copy of the Generation 8 Pokémon in the new Nintendo Switch games through these raids, but they will be able to challenge it multiple times for rewards, such as EXP Candy and Tera Shards.
7-Star Tera Raids have been happening frequently in the new titles, offering players a chance to obtain creatures not initially available in Paldea. Most recently, players could tackle the Delphox Tera Raid in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet for an opportunity to capture the final evolution of the Gen 6 Fire-type starter. Now, players will be able to challenge a 7-Star Rillaboom Tera Raid and get a chance to capture this Pokémon with a Mightiest Mark ribbon to showcase their success in beating the activity.
This becomes especially true when considering Rillaboom’s possible moveset in the 7-Star Tera Raid. Most activities of this rank feature creatures with six different moves rather than the regular four, so they have more coverage against challengers. While it is impossible to accurately predict exactly what moves it will have, as a Normal Tera Type Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet, Rillaboom is likely to know the Normal-type Boomburst. Wood Hammer should be its main STAB Grass-type move. The big trick to beating Rillaboom will come down to whether it knows the Flying-type Acrobatics or not – and this is where the strategy will come into place.
If the Rillaboom in the 7-Star Tera Raid knows Acrobatics, it will be able to super-effective counter most Fighting-type Pokémon that oppose it. This may be a tricky fight, especially when choosing the right Pokémon to take into battle. The best Fighting-types in the game are all weak against Flying-type, so either players need to counter that risk or choose a different Pokémon. If Rillaboom knows Acrobatics in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the best Pokémon to use may be Lucario.
Lucario does not take super-effective damage from Flying-moves and, in addition to that, reduces the damage taken by any Normal-, Grass-, and Dark-type moves that Rillaboom may use by half. If Rillaboom knows any Fighting- or Ground-type moves, however, Lucario may be in trouble, as it is weak to both those types. While weak to possible usage of Acrobatics, a great Fighting-type to use is Iron Hands. It may be hard to manage the Iron Hands’ build in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in the 7-Star Tera Raid against Rillaboom, but if it does survive the initial HP-sacrificing buff, it may be able to endure the fight against the opponent.
