A recent research conducted at The University of Western Australia has brought to light a previously unknown species of underground ant that bears resemblance to a famous character from the Harry Potter series.
Dr. Mark Wong, the lead scientist and a Forrest Fellow at UWA’s School of Biological Sciences, named this ant L. voldemort, as a nod to the infamous dark wizard Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter books.
Dr. Wong pointed out the eerie similarities between the formidable foes in Harry Potter and this new ant species, both characterized by their ethereal and slender figures, lurking in the shadows.
This unique ant species was stumbled upon during a survey of the wildlife inhabiting the subterranean realms of the arid Pilbara region in Western Australia’s north.
Dr. Wong mentioned that only a pair of specimens of this ant were located, retrieved using a net lowered down a 25-meter drill hole and carefully scraped off the inner walls of the hole.
