Cal’s Order 66 Trauma Revealed in Overlooked Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Details

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor features a subtle detail that depicts the trauma Order 66 inflicted on Cal Kestis. The game is packed with Star Wars easter eggs, but it’s brave of the developers to include character details that touch on Cal’s tragic backstory.

During the Lucrehulk portion of Jedi: Survivor’s story, Cal’s fear of escape pods is shown, a result of his traumatic Order 66 experience. When Cal and his crew head back to use a pod to escape the Lucrehulk, the doors of the escape pods now display the symbol for the Galactic Republic. This tiny yet massive detail subtly demonstrates Cal’s post-traumatic stress after what happened to him during Order 66, shown in Jedi: Fallen Order.

One of the most poignant moments in Jedi: Fallen Order is experiencing Order 66 from Cal’s perspective. Cal and his master, Jaro Tapal, were stationed on a Republic Cruiser when Darth Sidious executed Order 66. Cal and Tapal made it to the escape pods, but Tapal was wounded just before the pod launched. He died in Cal’s arms soon after, leaving the young Jedi alone to crash land on Bracca, where he hid as a scrapper for many years. It makes perfect sense that Cal would feel some form of post-traumatic stress around escape pods after this, and if his hallucination of the Republic logo in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor isn’t enough to confirm it, his nervousness about being in the pod does.

The developers went the extra mile with this small detail that adds an interesting depth to playing from Cal’s perspective.
