Larian Studios had to revert the fourth hotfix for Baldur’s Gate 3 due to various issues encountered by players after its release.
The developers promptly resolved all the problems, reissued the patch, apologized to users, and explained what happened:
The fourth hotfix underwent thorough QA testing and was approved for release yesterday. However, at the last moment, we redesigned the version to change its number. Unfortunately, the version that was prepared suffered from compiler errors, which caused some exceptions that usually do not lead to crashes, to – as you may have guessed – result in crashes. Since such compiler issues are extremely rare, we were not prepared for this. But we should have been. We messed up.
The developers have changed the patch release process to avoid a similar situation in the future, and the saved games made with the fourth hotfix installed are now working again.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a massive open-world role-playing game from the creators of the Divinity: Original Sin series. The game was released on PC on August 3 and turned out to be a big hit – players around the world praise it and the developers. The PlayStation 5 version, meanwhile, has been slightly delayed until September 6, while the release dates for the Xbox Series X and S versions remain uncertain (more about the delay of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox can be found here).
