Yesterday Swen Vincke from Larian tweeted that he was surprised by the large number of concurrent players. According to him, these numbers were completely unexpected, and before the game’s release, he told IT specialists that he expected no more than 100,000 concurrent players.
Currently, this gap has increased even further. Today, the number of players has already exceeded 740,000, surpassing games like DOTA 2, Rust, Apex Legends, GTA 5, and PUBG. Note that we are talking about a single-player niche role-playing game.
In addition, Baldur’s Gate has entered the top 10 games in Steam history. It is currently ranked 9th, dangerously close to 879,308 players in Hogwarts Legacy, a record set earlier this year. Above these two positions are New World, Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077, Dota 2, Lost Ark, CSGO, and PUBG. Of the top ten, only four are single-player games, while the rest are MMO or PvP.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a massive open-world role-playing game from the creators of the Divinity: Original Sin series. The game was released on PC on August 3 and has been a huge hit; players around the world praise it and the developers. In an interview, Vincke said that according to the developers, the standard playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3 takes between 75 to 100 hours. However, players who want to “do everything” should expect this number to double.
