In the Zelda universe, a male Gerudo is born every 100 years and automatically becomes the king. However, being the Gerudo King is often not enough for Ganondorf, as he seeks to obtain the power of the complete Triforce rather than just one piece. Despite being a significant character as a Triforce holder, Ganondorf cannot be considered the ultimate villain to threaten Hyrule.
In Skyward Sword, Demise is introduced as the being that Ghirahim attempts to resurrect using Zelda’s soul, as she is the mortal form of the Goddess Hylia. Fi describes Demise as an eternal being who has conquered time itself and is the source of all monsters. It took the combined power of Hylia and the tribes on the surface to seal Demise, a level of power that has never been required to defeat Ganondorf or Ganon.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom contains hidden details that hint at Ganondorf’s connection to Demise, similar to the connection between Calamity Ganon and Demise in Breath of the Wild. Ganondorf’s appearance after obtaining the Zonai Sacred Stone closely resembles Demise in Skyward Sword, and this form is referred to as his Demon King form, suggesting a connection between them. It is hard to ignore the similarities between the Demon King form of Ganondorf and Demise in terms of their roles and appearances.
Although Calamity Ganon does not possess the physical characteristics or the title of Demon King like Demise, Princess Zelda in Breath of the Wild states that “Ganon was born out of a dark past. He is a pure embodiment of the ancient evil that is reborn time and time again.” It is reasonable to speculate that the ancient evil she refers to is Demise, especially considering Zelda’s connection to Hylia and her divine powers that seal Ganon, similar to Hylia sealing Demise.
