In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, there are several familiar NPCs that Link may recognize from encounters in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Though there are plenty of NPCs in Zelda: Breath of the Wild that can also be found in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, there are a handful of characters that make quite the impression on Link and are worth tracking down to get an update on. Some of them have had more significant life changes than others, such as job changes or having children. These small details are a great way to make the world feel connected to the previous game despite the fact that so much has changed between the titles.
In Zelda: Breath of the Wild, we meet Riju, who is the leader of the Gerudo and nervous about being able to shoulder the amount of responsibility that has been left on her shoulders. Concern among the Gerudo is also learned about as they are worried about being led by a child. Through Link’s help, Riju learns how powerful she is and gains confidence in herself.
Heading into Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Riju is now a confident leader and capable of ruling her people. She welcomes Link to the town of Gerudo as she promised that she would, and Link is even able to see the new development in her Lightning powers, which she uses to assist Link as one of his Sages.
Pikango is perhaps one of the fondest memories that many players will have from Zelda: Breath of the Wild when they think about NPC characters. He is an accomplished painter and is constantly in search of beautiful landscapes to capture. He proves to be very helpful to Link as he paints locations for Link with the use of references.
