Shamar Joseph, the West Indies fast bowler, displayed incredible resilience as he battled through pain to lead his inexperienced team to an extraordinary eight-run upset over Australia in the second Test in Brisbane.
After being forced to retire hurt from a toe-crushing yorker by Mitchell Starc, Joseph returned to claim six wickets in a single session and 7-68 overall, securing West Indies’ first test win in Australia since 1997. Australia was bowled out for 207 in pursuit of 216 on Sunday.
Despite Australia’s new opener Steve Smith’s unbeaten 91, Joseph’s exceptional performance led to the tailender’s dismissal, sealing the win for West Indies and sparking celebrations at the Gabba.
Prior to the West Indies’ dismissal for 193 in their second innings, Australia’s skipper Pat Cummins had bravely declared at 289-9, with the series ending 1-1 after Australia’s 10-wicket victory in the first Test in Adelaide.
