In a message posted on LinkedIn a few minutes ago, Volition Studio, known for the Saints Row series of games, announced its immediate closure.
“For 30 years, the Volition team has proudly created world-class entertainment for fans around the world. We are driven by our passion for our community, and we have always worked to bring joy, surprise, and delight,” the studio said in a statement.
Last June, Embracer Group announced a restructuring program aimed at strengthening Embracer and maintaining its leading positions in the video game industry. As part of this program, a evaluation of strategic and operational tasks was conducted, and the difficult decision to close Volition immediately was made. To assist our team, we are striving to provide assistance in finding employment and easing the transition period for Volition family members. We thank our customers and fans around the world for the love and support they have shown us over the years. You will always be in our hearts.
The last game released by Volition was a failed reboot of Saints Row, which likely contributed to Embracer Group’s decision. Throughout its history, Volition has worked on the Red Faction and Saints Row series, as well as released other games such as Agents of Mayhem, Summoner, and The Punisher.
