In our days, the name Vin Diesel is mainly associated with his role as Dominic Toretto in “Fast and the Furious”. This should not surprise anyone, as this series brought the actor the most fame. However, he also has a role in a science fiction film that recently turned 10 years old.
We are talking about the 2013 film “Riddick”, in which Vin Diesel played the main character. The third part of the series, which started thirteen years earlier, reminded the actor’s fans that the science fiction genre is not unfamiliar to him.
It is worth noting that “Riddick” could have never been released. The two previous parts did not make big money for Universal Pictures, and the owners of the company did not really want to spend another million dollars on filming the movie. However, Vin Diesel showed how much he cared about this project.
The actor put most of the $38 million budget out of his own pocket. The studio agreed to all the star’s conditions, allowing him and David Twohy to return to the familiar universe for the third time.
What was the result of their work? “Riddick” could not conquer the cinemas in 2013. The film collected just over $98 million. Not the best result, of course, but with a smaller budget than “Riddick’s Chronicles”, the losses were significantly compensated.
Apparently, this amount was more than enough to try to revive the series again. Moreover, some time ago it was confirmed that the fourth film will be made. However, the premiere will have to be waited for. Nothing is being reported about the possible debut date of “Riddick: Fury” in cinemas.
