The parents of a teenager who tragically lost his life in the 2018 Parkland school shooting in Florida have initiated an innovative project known as The Shotline. This project aims to advocate for stricter gun laws in the United States. The Shotline utilizes artificial intelligence to replicate the voices of children who fell victim to gun violence and transmits these recordings via automated calls to legislators, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
Recently launched, six years after the devastating incident at the Parkland high school, The Shotline showcases the voices of six children and young adults, some as young as ten, who have been fatally affected by gun violence across the nation. By entering your zip code, The Shotline identifies your local representative and enables you to make an automated call from one of the six deceased individuals, using their own voice to advocate for stricter gun control laws. ”I’m back today because my parents used AI to recreate my voice to call you,” says the AI-generated voice of Joaquin Oliver, one of the victims.
