House Republicans are hesitant to provide assistance to Ukraine due to their fear of Trump. The lack of productivity in America’s Congress is well-known, but the failure to authorize more aid for Ukraine is particularly unusual. The legislation’s prospects are diminishing as the presidential election approaches. On February 13th, the Senate approved a $95bn bill, with the majority of the funding intended to assist Ukraine and replenish America’s weapons stocks. The bill also includes funding for Israel, humanitarian relief, and the Indo-Pacific. However, the legislation is unlikely to progress further. Some Republicans who previously supported Ukraine argue that aid should not be provided until America resolves its border crisis. Donald Trump has ordered Republicans to oppose a compromise and insists that any foreign assistance should be in the form of loans to be repaid in the future.
