When you reach Act 2 in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll encounter the Shadow Curse, which poses a significant obstacle to your progress. Attempting to pass through certain areas afflicted by the curse will result in severe damage, and even if you find a temporary solution, you’ll still have to contend with more formidable barriers later on. However, there are ways to bypass the Shadow Curse using light sources and specific spells.
Using a torch can provide some protection against the lighter layers of the Shadow Curse, but it won’t suffice for the deeper levels. Additionally, it restricts your character’s ability to use certain weapons in battle, putting certain classes at a disadvantage. For example, Fighters who have chosen the Two-Weapon Fighting style will find their bonus hindered by the use of a torch. Utilizing ambient light and high-level spells like Daylight can help counteract the effects of the Shadow Curse.
If you encounter the Cleric Isobel at the Last Light Inn, she can offer basic protection against the Shadow Curse for your party. While this protection is sufficient for the initial layer of the curse, it won’t be enough for the deeper levels. However, it alleviates the need to constantly carry a light source, allowing your party to navigate the cursed areas more freely.
As you explore Act 2 in Baldur’s Gate 3, you may come across a group of Fist warriors preparing to confront a Drider and some cultists within the Shadow Curse. Joining them will lead you to a Driver who possesses the Moon Lantern, a special item essential for progressing further into the curse.
The Moon Lantern enables you to traverse any part of the Shadow Curse, similar to how torches or other light sources helped you bypass the initial layer. Upon further investigation, you’ll discover that the lantern is powered by a trapped pixie, which can be freed with the right ability check. In return, your character will receive the Pixie’s Blessing, allowing your party to move through any part of the Shadow Curse at will in Baldur’s Gate 3.
