Unlocking Torment: The Highest Difficulty in Diablo 4’s World Tier 4

For players looking to face the toughest challenges in Diablo 4, World Tier 4: Torment represents the highest difficulty players can unlock to gain the best loot and earn the most XP for their character(s). With several modifiers to enemies and brand-new items to discover, this World Tier serves as a great place to reach the elusive level 100 with a class. However, players will have to take on a dungeon trial to gain access to this difficulty setting.

In order to have a chance to unlock World Tier 4, players must first have World Tier 3: Nightmare unlocked by completing the Capstone Dungeon in Diablo 4 that becomes available after finishing the main story. Players have to beat the story with at least one character on World Tier 2: Veteran before reaching these higher difficulties. Thankfully, this only needs to be done once, as there is an option to skip the campaign with future characters.

Defeating the incredibly high-level enemies and bosses in the Fallen Temple dungeon gives players the option to select World Tier 4: Torment from the Inarius statue in Kyovashad. Players are able to change their World Tier from the Character Select Screen as well, but cannot join a party unless all players are in the same Tier. This marks perhaps the most interesting part of Diablo 4’s endgame content since it hosts the strongest enemies and best loot in the game.

Enemies go through several changes in World Tier 4, becoming “even more fearsome” than in Tier 3, with a buff that allows monsters to pierce up to 40% of a player’s Resistances. This makes older Legendary gear obsolete, forcing players to try and find even better loot to contend with Hell’s hordes. Unique items introduced in the previous World Tier have new variations that players should consider hunting down.

Ancestral items are by far the strongest weapons, armor, and overall gear pieces in Diablo 4, and are only dropped in World Tier 4. Monsters also give 200% increased experience and 15% more Gold, giving players a great opportunity to level up their characters to use this Ancestral gear.
