Unlocking Nightmare Difficulty in Diablo 4: A Guide to World Tier 3

As players increase their character’s level in Diablo 4, they may be looking for more of a challenge through a higher difficulty, which can be found when they unlock World Tier 3: Nightmare. Offering stronger enemies, greater dungeon challenges, and therefore even better loot, players can think of World Tier 3 as the next step after beating the game once. However, players must pass a certain test in order to gain access to a new World Tier.

When starting Diablo 4, players can either join World Tier 1 (Adventurer) or World Tier 2 (Veteran) to determine how strong the enemies are in the world and the scaling of XP and loot given as rewards. These two difficulties are fairly similar, drawing from the same loot pools while World Tier 2: Veteran has a slightly higher challenge due to tougher enemies. Players have to beat the main story first with at least one character on either of these Worlds before reaching greater Tiers.

The Capstone dungeons of Diablo 4 are notorious for their amount of high level enemies, both elite and bosses, who usually sit around level 50 for the World Tier 3 quest. Players should gather as much Legendary Gear with Codex of Power Aspects as they can to be prepared for the hordes of Hell awaiting them in this trial.

Interacting with the Inarius statue in Kyovashad allows players to change their World Tier at will, with adds certain modifiers to enemies, loot, XP, and other aspects of Diablo 4. Selecting World Tier 3: Nightmare makes all enemies level 50-70, much like how they were in the Capstone dungeon. Monsters in World Tier 3 also give 100% more experience and 15% more gold than in the previous Tier, but have a buff that pierces through 20% of a character’s resistances as well.
