Generative artificial intelligence (genAI) technology is viewed by many as a tool for automation that will revolutionize the job market. However, the IT industry sees it as a creator of knowledge jobs. Tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney can eliminate mundane tasks, allowing workers to take on more creative roles and be more productive. GenAI is also expected to democratize jobs, enabling employees without computer science degrees to create applications using AI-augmented coding. A new Gartner report predicts that AI will create over half a billion net-new jobs by 2033. AI consultant Mark Kashef believes that genAI will create jobs that are currently unimaginable, particularly in AI development, data analysis, and AI ethics. The democratization of jobs will make these roles accessible to non-specialists, reducing costs and improving the availability of AI-powered products and services. Economic growth spurred by genAI adoption is expected to occur in all industries worldwide. A survey commissioned by Upwork found that companies will hire more full-time employees and freelancers due to generative AI. Despite its potential, only 15% of organizations have effectively adopted genAI, indicating that its impact on jobs is not yet significant.
