Presented here is the second part of a compelling series on the reported exploitation of Filipino migrant workers. If you missed the first part, you can catch up here.
In the vibrant city of Mong Kok, Hong Kong, Divina*, a domestic worker, stumbled upon an enticing opportunity to work in Poland after just a brief online search.
Soon after, Divina found herself in a two-hour orientation session on the 17th floor of a building, where she was presented with a range of work opportunities, from hotels to a chicken processing plant and a car parts factory.
According to Divina, the agents’ extensive list of opportunities in Poland made it seem like they had strong connections in the country.
Divina took the leap and paid the recruiters 10,000 Hong Kong dollars ($1,279) to kickstart her application process for a job in Europe.
