The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence announced that a British vessel successfully intercepted a Houthi drone in the Red Sea, amidst escalating tensions in the Middle East due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
HMS Diamond thwarted the drone attack, which was backed by Iran, with no harm to the vessel or its crew, according to a statement released by the ministry on Sunday.
While the Houthis have not responded to the incident, the group had previously declared its intention to target vessels linked to Israel in the region as a means of pressuring the Israeli government to cease its attacks on Gaza and allow more humanitarian aid into the area.
Since October 7, Gaza has faced heavy bombardment from Israeli forces, resulting in numerous casualties and significant damage. The conflict has led to a significant loss of life and destruction in the region.
