The estate of Tupac Shakur is expressing displeasure over Drake using the voice of the late hip-hop icon in a diss track aimed at Kendrick Lamar. According to Billboard, attorney Howard King, representing Shakur’s estate, has issued a cease-and-desist letter, citing Drake’s use of Shakur’s voice as a clear infringement of Tupac’s image and the legal rights of the estate.
Drake, also known as Aubrey Drake Graham, released the diss track “Taylor Made Freestyle” last week, adding another chapter to his ongoing feud with Kendrick Lamar, a Pulitzer Prize and 17-time Grammy award-winning artist.
In Drake’s track, an AI-generated version of Tupac raps, “Kendrick, we need ya, the West Coast savior / Engraving your name in some hip-hop history. If you deal with this viciously / You seem a little nervous about all the publicity.”
In the cease-and-desist letter, King, on behalf of Shakur’s estate, demands that Drake remove “Taylor Made Freestyle” within 24 hours, or face legal action.
