Top Priorities for Spending Your Gold in Diablo 4

Diablo 4 lets players return to the unending fight against demons in Sanctuary, and that means using the resources that are available to make it easier to survive. Gold is the standard currency for Diablo 4, and similar to other games in the series, it’s harder to build up during the early game sections. As such, it can be difficult to know what’s worth purchasing in early game and when players are better off saving their gold.

Players can spend over 100 hours beating Diablo 4 depending on how much side content they decide to complete. As players might expect, there’s a lot that gold can be used for late in the game, especially with rerolling stats on Legendaries and the cost that comes with rerolling one item several times to get the best options. But for players just beginning their journey, here are some of the best uses for gold at the start of Diablo 4.

Diablo 4 starts players with the ability to hold a maximum of four health potions. When enemies are killed, they have a chance to drop a health potion, but the health orbs from D3 are gone. This means that managing health potions is more important in D4 than in its predecessor, and upgrades are that much more valuable as a result. These upgrades can be purchased at the Alchemist in town, and don’t cost a lot of gold considering the overall value of having better potions.

Elixirs are consumables that use gathered items to craft at the Alchemist in Diablo 4, and they provide temporary buffs like an increase to Armor and experience gain. If players have been gathering materials like Biteberries as they travel, then crafting Elixirs shouldn’t be overly expensive. These Elixirs can provide enough of a boost to help players get through sections they might be struggling with, or players can use them for the experience boost to level a bit faster.

Part of the expense for Elixirs comes in the form of ingredients required. Players can use gold and specific materials to exchange for other materials, letting them craft Elixirs that need ingredients they might not have picked up yet. Even with limited options for Elixirs available at lower levels, they can eat up gold. However, that expense can be worth it for the extra boosts to help players clear more difficult areas.
