Baldur’s Gate 3 is an amazing RPG that’s received both wide critical and audience acclaim for its deep storytelling, rich lore, and freedom of choice. Based on the Dungeons and Dragons 5e tabletop game, BG3 is a solid example of what development companies can do with enough time. That being said, the game is not without its flaws, and though it spent a significant amount of time in development with a nearly three-year early access period, some funnier glitches can break the game’s immersion.
A likely reason why there are so many glitches in BG3, unsurprisingly, has to do with what makes the game so amazing. With so many important choices, divergent storylines, and different outcomes that can be achieved, it was only a matter of time before some would delve down a path the developers of the game, Larian Studios, never intended in the first place. While there are a few more sad glitches, like a glitch affecting romance, others will illicit an unintended laugh. While these funnier glitches aren’t exactly game-breaking, they can break immersion and take someone out of the game with unintentional humor.
One of the weirdest glitches to occur in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a pretty rare one, but it can occur when playing co-op multiplayer. In certain scenarios where an NPC has a locked position or animation in a certain direction, they will get locked in that animation when Tav tries listening to a party member’s conversation. This results in staring at the back of characters throughout the entire dialogue, making for a rather awkward conversation.
One example of where this can occur is in the goblin camp in Act 1 of the game. Upon entering the area where the goblin torturers are (granted, the right choices have been selected in dialogue), the lover of Loviatar, Abdirak, will be praying against the wall. If dropping in on a co-op player’s dialogue while he is kneeling and looking at the wall, he’ll stay in this position for the entire duration of the dialogue. While the lover of pain is one of the stranger characters in BG3 generally, things get even weirder when talking to his leather-clad back.
While typically not a problem in Baldur’s Gate 3, character models in the world are reactive, changing position constantly depending on what they are doing or where they are located in the in-game world. One unintended consequence of this is the character models inside of the character sheet. Characters that ascend or descend elevation and open the screen will notice that the character model also descends and ascends – but not in an intended way.
