The Super Mario RPG remake has recently brought back an SNES classic in a refreshed form. However, there are other games from the system that also deserve a new treatment. The Nintendo Switch version remains loyal to the original style and content of Super Mario RPG. It recreates the isometric art in a direct polygonal form with added detail and smoother movement. Remakes can often be controversial due to bugs, abandoned features, or a loss of atmosphere. Nevertheless, this example demonstrates how doing things right can be highly effective.
Many SNES games work perfectly well as basic ports since the 16-bit graphics still hold up beautifully. Most titles are less frustrating than the hardest experiences on the NES. However, some of the greatest games could benefit from specific remakes on the Nintendo Switch or other current generation platforms. Whether it’s tight platforming experiences or expansive RPGs, there is something for everyone among the SNES library that deserves a remake the most.

While the first couple of Metroid titles may be rudimentary in some regards, Super Metroid is where the series truly excelled. Therefore, it doesn’t necessarily need a remake since its graphics and gameplay still hold up wonderfully today. However, it could be fun to see Metroid Dread developer MercurySteam take a crack at reimagining it, providing an alternative way to experience this stone-cold classic with some additional features and improved mobility.
Zombies Ate My Neighbors is an inventive and unique SNES game that takes the run and gun genre to a memorably silly setting and tone. It is also notoriously difficult, which becomes fully apparent deep into its whopping 50 levels. A Zombies Ate My Neighbors remake could introduce different difficulty settings or tweak its resource system to make reaching the end of the game more achievable. Refreshing the graphics while maintaining its distinctive style and enhancing the gameplay would be the icing on the cake.
