Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner Group of Russian-backed mercenaries, was believed to have died in a plane crash north of Moscow. Two months ago, Mr. Prigozhin led a rebellion of his men, resulting in a short ”march on Moscow” and clashes with Russian troops due to his dissatisfaction with the war in Ukraine. President Vladimir Putin labeled him a traitor, and it was expected that the Russian president would seek revenge.
The Biden administration granted permission for Denmark and the Netherlands to send F-16s to Ukraine. This marks the first time the US has allowed the transfer of these American-made fighter aircraft after months of requests from Kyiv. However, the jets will not be deployed immediately as Ukrainian pilots require training to operate them.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine will utilize the jets to protect Ukrainian cities and villages from Russian terrorists. His remarks came after a Russian missile strike on a theater in Chernihiv, a city in northern Ukraine, resulted in the deaths of seven people and injuries to 144 others. Meanwhile, Ukraine conducted additional drone attacks on Russia.
