As of August 2022, the number of employed individuals in the US surpassed the pre-pandemic levels recorded in February 2020.
However, despite this headline recovery in the labor market, certain industries, such as restaurants and hotels, still faced challenges resulting from the pandemic.
The September jobs report revealed that the accommodations industry, which includes hotels, continues to lag behind in restoring the labor market to its pre-pandemic state.
In September, employment in the food services and drinking places industry increased by 61,000, bringing it back to its February 2020 level. The industry currently employs 12,368,400 individuals, compared to 12,338,900 in February 2020.
