The US Labor Market’s Path to Full Recovery from the Pandemic Hindered by a Single Obstacle


As of‍ August 2022, the number‍ of employed individuals in the US surpassed the ‌pre-pandemic levels recorded in February 2020.

However, despite ⁣this headline⁤ recovery in the labor market,​ certain industries, such as restaurants and hotels, still faced ​challenges​ resulting⁢ from the pandemic.

The September jobs report revealed that the accommodations industry, which includes‍ hotels, continues to lag ⁣behind in restoring the labor market ‍to its⁣ pre-pandemic state.

In‍ September,⁣ employment ‍in the food services and drinking places industry increased by 61,000, bringing it back to its February ‌2020 level. The ⁣industry currently⁢ employs 12,368,400 individuals, compared to 12,338,900⁣ in February 2020.
