Baldur’s Gate 3 is receiving praise for two main reasons: the ability to play offline and the absence of microtransactions.
Players appreciate the emergence of a single-player role-playing game that can be played offline and without the temptation to purchase cosmetic items with real money. This sentiment is expressed in a Reddit post, which also expresses disappointment with certain monetization policies in the AAA market.
Some even find it sad, as it indicates a complete shift in the market. As a negative example, Diablo IV by Blizzard Entertainment is mentioned, which requires constant online presence even in single-player mode, is filled with microtransactions, and is also unfinished. In comparison, user FetusGoesYetus writes, “Larian looks like a fifteen-year-old development studio in the best sense of the word.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a large-scale open-world role-playing game developed by the creators of the Divinity: Original Sin series. Larian announced a one-month delay for the PC version, moving it from August 31 to October 3, to avoid conflicting with Bethesda’s Starfield, which is set to release in early September. The PlayStation 5 version has been slightly postponed to September 6, while the release dates for the Xbox Series X and S versions are still unknown (more information about the Baldur’s Gate 3 delay on Xbox can be found here). In an interview, Vinke stated that the standard playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3 takes between 75 and 100 hours. However, players who want to ”do everything” should expect this number to double.
