The Illogicality of Baldur’s Gate 3 Origin Character Levels

During their adventures in Baldur’s Gate 3, the⁢ party’s characters progress from level one novices to formidable level⁣ 12 adventurers. ‍However, considering the backstories of some⁢ of the companion and Origin characters, this progression doesn’t⁢ quite‍ align. With⁣ wizards ⁤capable of catching Mystra’s attention and 200-year-old vampires, certain BG3 Origin ⁣characters should have⁤ started ‌at a much higher level.

For‌ gameplay reasons, all the Origin characters start at level one to allow ⁢customization of their skills for each playthrough. This⁤ is⁢ even justified in-game, ⁢with characters mentioning that they were more powerful before their tadpole. However, in terms of lore,⁣ their levels⁢ should be much higher, considering their lives prior to the events ‍of the game. Some characters should ⁤have‌ reached higher ⁢levels than they ‌do by the end of Baldur’s Gate 3.
