As part of the Gamescom 2023 announcement, Nvidia has announced that the next game to receive RTX enhancement will be the critically acclaimed first-person shooter, Valve’s Half-Life 2.
The work on the RTX version of Half-Life 2 is being carried out by the Half-Life 2 development community using an early version of the RTX Remix toolkit. The RTX version of Half-Life 2 will incorporate Nvidia technologies such as hardware-accelerated ray tracing, Nvidia Reflex, RTX IO, and the third generation of DLSS.
Half-Life 2 RTX follows in the footsteps of Portal RTX, which was released in December 2022. Portal with RTX was created by Nvidia’s Lightspeed Studios team using RTX Remix, a modding platform designed to make it easier for modders to create ray tracing remasters of classic games.
RTX Remix, announced by Nvidia in September 2022, is not yet available to the general public, but the company has provided early access to four leading mod development teams for Half-Life 2, who are working on a mod under the Orbifold Studios banner.
