The new Pokémon revealed in the August Pokémon Presents perfectly represent the themes of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet‘s DLC. Four new Pokémon were revealed during the special presentation, the group consisting of two evolutions of existing Pokémon as well as two additional Paradox Pokémon. Moreover, all four Pokémon have unique designs that appear to harken back to the overarching themes of both the base Pokémon Scarlet and Violet games and The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero.

The two halves of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero have distinctly different aesthetics, which appear to be derived from the overarching themes of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the past and future. More specifically, The Teal Mask could be based on the concepts of folklore and tradition, while The Indigo Disk focuses on science and technology. These same concepts have clearly had a great deal of influence on the newly-announced Pokémon as well, with the new evolutions in particular being strongly connected to their respective DLC sections. This is something that is plainly evident in their designs.
Although Japanese folklore has evidently inspired Pokémon’s new DLC, it is very clear that the land of Kitakami, in particular, is based on Japanese culture and traditions as an extension of Pokémon Scarlet’s theme of the past. The Teal Mask is centered around a traditional Japanese-style festival, where masks are a common sight as souvenirs and accessories. This is, undoubtedly, the inspiration for the titular item and its wearer, Ogerpon, not to mention the fact that the related event in Kitakami is quite literally the Festival of Masks. However, there is more to any festival than just masks, with various games and foods also being popularly offered by stalls.
Dipplin’s design is obviously inspired by candy apples, and the setting of The Teal Mask clearly influenced this decision; candy apples are, after all, a common festival foodstuff. Because of this, the treat is an obvious choice for the inspiration of a festival-themed Pokémon. In fact, candy apples can even be briefly seen being eaten at the Festival of Masks in the promotional footage, cementing the connection.
