Baldur’s Gate 3 is almost ready, and Larian Studios talks about how the upcoming D&D role-playing game wants to present you with a “Game of Thrones”-style story, written specifically for you and responsive to you. With just a few weeks left until Baldur’s Gate 3’s release, new players will want to know what exactly Baldur’s Gate 3 plans to offer.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Game Director and Larian Studios founder, Swen Vincke, talked about what to expect from the fantasy game in a new interview with Polish journalists.
In particular, Vincke is asked how he would convince someone to play and spend money on Baldur’s Gate 3, to which he gives a simple answer: “Well, I would say: if you like Dungeons and Dragons, then you will like Baldur’s Gate 3,” but then follows a deeper answer that references George R.R. Martin’s fantasy series ”A Song of Ice and Fire”.
We have done a lot of work to make the [D&D] rules accessible, we have done a lot of work to ensure that your decisions, your personality, who you are, what you do – all of that is reflected in the story. The game’s narrative adapts to you as you progress through the game, and you will perceive it as if your own “Game of Thrones” is being written. Depending on what you do within the rules… Honestly, I don’t think there have been similar games before – where systems, multiplayer, storytelling, and scenes are all merged into one. It’s like a cocktail of several ingredients, taking a sip of which you realize – everything here blends together.
With so many companions, races, customization options, and weapons, Baldur’s Gate 3 may seem like a daunting prospect for some to dive into – but Vincke clearly wants such people to know that everything will be fine; Larian has taken care of it.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a massive open-world role-playing game from the creators of the Divinity: Original Sin series. Larian announced the PC release date being pushed forward by a month, from August 31st to August 3rd, to avoid a clash with Bethesda’s Starfield, which is coming out in early September. The PlayStation 5 version, meanwhile, is slightly delayed until September 6th, and the Xbox Series X and S versions remain without a release date (more about the delay of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox here).
In the interview, Vincke said that, according to the developers, a standard playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3 takes around 75 to 100 hours. However, players who want to “do everything” should expect this number to double.
