In a previous online interview with Bloomberg, Bethesda’s director Todd Howard was asked, “Why not optimize the PC version of Starfield?” to which Todd responded, “We have optimized it, but you may need to upgrade your computer.”
This statement outraged gamers and became the subject of heated discussions both within the English-speaking community and beyond. It has become as iconic as the phrase “Do you not all have phones?”
Due to Todd’s comment, many players started leaving negative reviews about Starfield on Steam, and some screenshots of these negative reviews are provided below:

Todd’s words led to a rapid decline in Starfield’s rating on Steam. At the time of the official release on September 6th, Bethesda’s game had an 88% review score, but at the time of publishing this article, it had dropped to 80%. Additionally, the game had been available in early access since September 1st.
Furthermore, as of now, Starfield has not received a single optimization update, which also causes dissatisfaction among players. If the situation does not change, Starfield is unlikely to maintain its special popularity on Steam.
From Todd Howard’s 2021 interview, it is known that the development of the game “in one form or another” lasted for more than 10 years.
