Developers from Bethesda Softworks studio are reporting record numbers of players in Starfield, but the sales of the space action game are telling a different story. While the project initially had strong demand from players for various editions and versions, interest in the massive RPG has significantly declined. Analysts are reporting a significant drop in game sales, reaching critical levels.
According to GamesIndustry editor Christopher Dring, the most noticeable decline in Starfield sales has been in the UK. Major online platforms and regular retail stores have seen an 87% decrease in sales of all physical editions. Although the situation in other markets is not as dire, interest in the game is also declining significantly in Europe and the USA. Sales in these regions are estimated to have dropped by 60%, which is considered a very bad sign for such a major release from Bethesda.
On the other hand, digital sales for Starfield are faring better. Analysts note a decline in demand, but it does not exceed 30-40%. However, it is difficult to accurately calculate the actual number of digital copies sold. Industry experts believe that the project will only maintain its popularity within the Game Pass subscription, and the game’s sales are unlikely to reach the levels of The Elder Scrolls or Fallout series.
