Diablo IV‘s Secret of the Spring side quest features a puzzle with a solution that’s far easier than players might think. Secret of the Spring is one of the first side quests players can tackle in Blizzard’s latest dungeon-crawling RPG, but instead of testing players’ combat skills, it tests players’ knowledge of some basic social features.
To grab the Secret of the Spring quest, players must have completed Diablo IV’s Prologue and tutorial sections, which lead players to the hub town of Kyovashad. At this point, the game will open up a bit, allowing player characters to explore the Fractured Peaks region and potentially to disable Diablo IV’s in-game chat after getting the opportunity to interact with other players for the first time.
The note reveals a riddle: “beacon of warmth in winter’s embrace, patience rewarded by nature’s own grace.” To solve the riddle, players should head to the marked area on the map to find a bubbling hot spring: the “beacon of warmth” the riddle refers to.
To solve the riddle, stand by the hot spring and use the Wait Emote by pressing E or Up on the D-Pad to open the emote wheel. Players may have already learned how to do this from a small quest in Kyovashad, but with everything the game has to teach players, including how to salvage and transmog Diablo IV’s gear items, it’s easy to miss.
After doing this, a hidden chest should pop out of the ground nearby, allowing players to complete the Secret of the Spring quest and earn some of Diablo IV’s Renown, plus a bunch of randomized items. It’s not exactly one of the game’s toughest quests, but it’s a reasonably easy way to get some extra items and learn about emotes to make Diablo IV a more social experience.
