Ukrainian officials have reported that Russian forces launched over three dozen missiles across Ukraine on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of at least five people. These attacks occurred in both residential and industrial areas, including regions far from the front lines.
Mykhailo Podolyak, a senior adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky, described the missile strikes as “deliberate large-scale attacks on civilians.” The targets included the SKF factory in Lutsk, northwest Ukraine, where three employees were killed and three others injured. The city of Lviv was also heavily affected, with a missile hitting a kindergarten yard and nearby apartment blocks, causing a fire and damaging over 100 homes. Additional strikes in the region injured 19 people, many of whom were elderly.
Lviv, along with other cities in western Ukraine, has been a refuge for those fleeing conflict in the eastern and southern parts of the country. However, Russia’s missile attacks have shattered the sense of security in these areas, with previous strikes causing casualties. Denise Brown, the United Nations’ top official in Ukraine, called for an end to this “brutal pattern of civilian harm.”
In addition to the attacks in Lviv, missile strikes in Donetsk, Kherson, and Dnipropetrovsk regions resulted in the deaths of two people and injuries to eight others.
