Zoom has ventured into mixed reality with a new meeting app for Apple’s Vision Pro, offering innovative ways to collaborate in three dimensions. The app will utilize the spatial computing capabilities of the device, providing 3D representations of meeting participants, capturing facial and hand movements, and allowing users to scale the app to their desired size. These features will be available starting Feb. 2.
According to Wayne Kurtzman, IDC research vice president of social, communities, and collaboration, the evolution of Zoom technologies within emerging media is expected to transform collaboration into a more visual and engaging experience. Zoom also plans to introduce additional features, such as 3D object sharing and the integration of its Team Chat text collaboration tool within the visionOS app.
While workplace collaboration may not be the primary driver of AR/VR adoption among businesses, Zoom’s Vision Pro app is set to enhance Apple’s new headset, allowing users to seamlessly engage with productivity and collaboration applications without switching devices. This move is crucial for Zoom to solidify its position in the market, as highlighted by Raúl Castañón, senior research analyst at 451 Research.
