A leaked build of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Heart of Chornobyl surfaced online this week, which enthusiasts were able to launch. GSC Game World studio accused “Russian hackers” of being responsible for the leak. However, some members of the VK community “Herald of That Very Stalker” believe it was a simple mistake on the part of the developers, as indicated by the source of the distribution being in the Czech Republic where the developers are located.
Daniil Nexus, one of the founders of the “HTBS” community, responded to GSC Game World’s accusations, stating that “the level of lies and manipulations from the studio exceeded all our expectations.”
It’s nice that they credited us for the leak, but this time the level of lies and manipulations from GSC exceeded all our expectations. Let’s touch on their official statement a little and clarify some points.
1. “Our team discovered a vulnerability that was exploited by <…>”
– Lie. It is very convenient to call the incompetence of your security employees a “vulnerability,” and then blame us for using it, freely downloading the build. The build was uploaded to the torrent by GSC themselves 6 days ago, and they forgot to configure its privacy. No hacking or actions on the part of our agency were taken for the so-called “leak” of data.2. “<…> group of RUSSIAN hackers attacking the company for almost a year”
– We have said this a hundred times, we will repeat it for the hundred and first time: not all of us are Russians, we are not hackers either. The company, of course, did not provide any evidence to support its claims. We have no idea what “year-long attacks” they are talking about in this case.Note that the GSC community managers decided to remove all Russian chats on their official Discord server (replacing them with channels “for all languages”) and prohibit freely speaking in channels other than those for suggestions and questions. It only turns out that the company’s policy is built on hypocrisy. Otherwise, how to explain that inside the company it is freely used? Not only in communication between employees, but also in development: at the moment, almost all the text in the game is in Russian, while the English text has only recently been introduced. Design documents are also all written in Russian.
So, to sum up: only Ukrainians and no one else were responsible for the leak of 15GB of game data and developments. The recent build leak was caused by GSC Game World themselves, mostly by Ukrainians (Czechs). Americans discovered the leak, and we, also Ukrainians, discovered the next step and started spreading it.
And all this without resorting to any hacking or exploiting “vulnerabilities.”
Data miner and modeller Red Panda also commented on the situation, stating that GSC Game World released a build with keys publicly without suspecting anything.
