During an Israeli attack in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, three journalists were injured, with one sustaining serious injuries. The besieged strip’s authorities claim it was a deliberate attack.
One of the journalists, Sami Shehadeh from Turkish broadcaster TRT, had to undergo foot amputation due to the injuries sustained in the attack. Another TRT journalist, Sami Berhum, was also wounded.
According to TRT, the Israeli army targeted a vehicle belonging to their team that was preparing to broadcast from the Nuseirat camp.
Zahid Sobaci, TRT’s Director General, condemned the attack as “Israeli brutality” that crossed all moral and humanitarian boundaries.
Shehadeh, speaking from the al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir el-Balah, mentioned that he was not in a dangerous area and was surrounded by people and journalists when the attack occurred.
He described the moment of the attack, stating that he saw his leg amputated and emphasized that he was clearly identifiable as a journalist with his press vest and helmet.
‘Journalists deliberately targeted’
The media office in Gaza strongly condemned the Israeli attack on the journalists’ vehicle, accusing Israeli forces of deliberately targeting journalists to suppress the truth.
Jonathan Dagher from Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Middle East desk expressed concern over the frequent attacks on journalists in Gaza by Israel, stating that such incidents have become common in recent months.
